Blackpool Illuminations 2010

Whilst the author grew up in Blackpool he sometimes forgets the biggest attraction of the year – which is also free!.

The Illuminations are back! – more than half-way through this years showing (oops).  The lights are of course well known and world famous with many people seeing them year after year.  For children the lights are great fun, but I do advise that you start at the north end and work down as younger children can get tired – at the North end you can find all the “set pieces” or tableau’s.

New this year are some designed by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen with his “glampire” display designed to appeal to the older child or teens.

The “Dino Doom” features a massive tableau with light effects and projects – along with the roar of the dinosaurs.

A Ghost train is able to be ridden by the brave at the South end of the illuminations by the SAndcastle Waterpark with “Carneky’s Ghost Train”.

Remember – whilst the illuminations are free collection points will help next years be even better as money donated goes to the cost of the lights!
