SMILE PICNIC CELEBRITIES UNVEILED
STAR attractions topping the bill at the eagerly-awaited Chorley Smile Picnic in the Park next month can now be revealed.
The popular television characters Fifi from ‘Fifi and the Flowertots’ and Fireman Sam, Pontypandy’s ‘hero next door’ will be the guest celebrities for children to meet and greet on a day that promises to be packed full of family fun and entertainment.
People are being invited to come on down to Chorley’s Astley Park on Sunday, July 4, from noon to 5pm for the fabulous Chorley Smile Picnic in the Park organised by Chorley Council.
Leader of Chorley Council, Councillor Peter Goldsworthy, said: “Excitement is mounting for the Picnic this year as it promises to be as good as last year. There were about 4,000 people who came along last year taking advantage of the summer sunshine and the activities and entertainment throughout the afternoon in the spectacular setting of our own Astley Park.
“We’ve had lots of inquiries about this year’s event already so we hope to get as many people, if not more, along this year. Bring a picnic and come for the whole afternoon there’s going to be lots going on.
“People can also advantage of the free parking in Chorley town centre and walk through the Park to the activities on the playing fields, attractions outside Astley Hall and entertainment in the Walled Garden.”
As well as the guest celebrities, popular entertainer Artizani is returning to the Walled Garden with an hilarious new theatre show called ‘The Cabaret of Dr Caligari’.
For the first time in Chorley, the Fairly Famous Family will make appearances with their show ‘Anyone for Tennis?’ which involves audience participation.
And Markmark Productions will be bringing slapstick, sword fights and mayhem in their very own version of the legend of Robin Hood called Robin Retired.
One of the highlights of the day will be the Chorley Smile awards ceremony which recognises the work of the community, individuals and businesses who have gone the extra mile to make Chorley Smile.
All those short listed for each of the categories in the Chorley Smile Awards have been invited along to take centre stage for a special presentation ceremony.
There will also be a range of sports activities for children and the older generation to take part in including archery, circus skills, a rock climbing wall and other fun games. Plus Astley Hall will be open for visitors to look round and renowned artist David Tress will be exhibiting his works in the Coach House.
Cafe Ambio will be open and Pets Corner, managed by the Brothers of Charity Services, will have a variety of furry animals, feathered friends and wriggly reptiles for everyone to have a look at.
