If your stuck for something to do -or want to give your child something different to do, why not try a local library.
Libraries are free – you and your child can register at your local library and get access to a wide range of resources:
- Books, DVDs and CDs are available in many libraries – books are available in all libraries – and all apart from the smallest now have collections of DVD’s and CD’s, you can even find computer software in some!
- Note Books are free to take out (and for adults you need to return them by the due date!) – CDs, DVDs and software often cost a fee per rental, and sometimes have a shorter loan date.
- Storytime – An old library staple is still available today – nearly all libraries do storytime, weekly normally.
- Baby Bounce and Rhyme – This is aimed at children under the age of eighteen months, it usually consists of rhymes and songs for children- and often is accompanied by actions – children love these sessions with favourites like “Five green and speckled Frogs..”, “Old McDonald had a farm”, “The ants go Marching” and many more are recited – these sessions help the co-ordination and development of all children, especially for those who do not have a lot of interaction with other tots.
- Toddle Rhyme Times – this is a continuation of Baby Bounce and Rhyme, aimed at over eighteen months simple stories are introduced to children to continue their development, this is a great foundation for nursery school and great fun for kids.
In future posts I’ll go over some other things in the library for children – and then we will start to gather information for libraries events and times – starting with lancashire and hopefully overtime across the whole of the UK
